Ethos is proud to be working with Ithaca Energy, a leading independent oil and gas operator in the North Sea. While this partnership is still in its early stages, significant work is already underway, with more planned for the future.
Improving Operational and Task Risk Assessments
Ithaca Energy has engaged Ethos to enhance the quality of their Operational and Task Risk Assessments (ORA & TRA). Risk assessments are a fundamental aspect of maintaining safety in high-hazard industries, yet over time, the language of risk has become muddled, leading to assessments that are less effective. By working with Ethos, Ithaca Energy aims to ensure that it's risk assessments are clear, consistent, and actionable, helping to strengthen safety across its operations.
To support this initiative, Ethos has already delivered two pilot workshops—one focused on TRA and another on ORA—laying the groundwork for further collaboration.
Supporting Safety Through Coaching
In addition to improving risk assessment processes, Ethos are providing Safety Coaches for Ithaca Energy’s upcoming flotel campaign on their Captain asset. Campaigns of this nature are high-activity projects that place increased demands on department supervisors. During these critical periods, additional site supervision is essential to maintain safety standards.
Ethos’ Safety Coaches will be present at the worksite, focusing solely on ensuring safety best practices are upheld. This tried and tested approach provides invaluable on-the-ground support, reinforcing a strong safety culture during high-intensity operations.
Key Learnings from the Training
The training and coaching delivered so far have highlighted several key takeaways:
- Task Risk Assessment (TRA): Participants are learning the language of risk, helping to bring clarity and consistency back to risk assessments.
- Operational Risk Assessment (ORA): The focus is on the methodologies and approaches that lead to better-quality ORAs.
- Safety Coaches: Campaigns require a heightened level of supervision to ensure safety. Having a third-party professional dedicated to being present on-site and focused on safety is a proven way to keep people safe during demanding projects.
Looking Ahead
Ethos is committed to supporting Ithaca Energy in developing best practices for risk assessments and safety leadership. As this partnership continues to evolve, the focus will remain on enhancing safety processes, strengthening risk awareness, and providing expert coaching where it is needed most.
Through this collaboration, Ethos is helping Ithaca Energy drive continuous improvement in safety performance, ensuring that risk management and workplace safety remain at the forefront of their operations.
